Laser vs imager scanners
A laser scanner reads only linear codes; an imager also reads QR and Data Matrix.
A laser scanner sweeps the code with a beam while an imager takes a picture of it. That is why an imager copes better with codes on phone screens and with damaged labels.
If you only handle plain EAN codes a laser unit is cheap and fast; otherwise choose an imager.
